During the refining process, impurities such as sulfur, phosphorus, and excess carbon are removed, and alloying elements may be added to achieve the desired properties of the final product.
Casting and Rolling
After refining, the molten carbon steel is cast into different shapes. Continuous casting is a common method, where the molten steel is poured into a water – cooled mold to form a continuous strand. The strand is then cut into billets, blooms, or slabs, depending on the requirements.
These semi – finished products are then rolled into sheets or plates. Rolling is a process that reduces the thickness of the steel and improves its mechanical properties. The steel is passed through a series of rollers under high pressure to achieve the desired thickness and surface finish.
