Moving Outdoors
For those of you who have climbed indoors and want to move outdoors onto real rock, or you just fancy having an outdoor climbing experience. It is the first step to a lifelong activity that will enable you to access areas you have only dreamed of and will keep you fit too.
You may think you are too scared of heights to give it a go, but everything will be geared to your needs and at Monsterclimbs customers always start from the ground – it’s up to you how far you go. It’s not getting to the top that counts but the journey.
You don’t even need any equipment as everything can be provided for you. You will learn:
- How to put on a helmet and harness correctly.
- How to fit and use specialist climbing shoes.
- How to belay using a standard belay device or Gri Gri.
- How to climb using good footwork and pushing with the legs.
- How to climb by transferring weight from one foot to the other.
- Learn how to use static and dynamic balance.
Maximum of 9 people to ensure quality instruction. Venue: Symonds Yat. Dates available: 31st May, 6th & 28th June, 18th July, 8th August 2015.Cost: £60 per person – 10% discount for multiple bookings.
Set-ups- Bottom Ropes
For those not yet ready to take the steps towards leading but wish to climb routes outdoors in an ethical and safe way. All equipment can be provided including climbing shoes. They will learn:
- Which areas are suitable for setting up bottom ropes.
- How and where to set bottom ropes up in a safe and ethical manner with consideration for other climbers and historical climbs.
- How to keep safe at the top of routes whilst setting up bottom ropes.
- How to select a suitable safe belay using trees, spikes, blocks or threads.
- Where to place the karabiners so the rope will run smoothly away from the edge of the rock face.
- Safe belaying techniques from the bottom of the crag.
- Coaching of basic footwork and movement skills.
Maximum of 4 people due to the serious nature of the activity. Venue: Symonds Yat. Dates available on request. Cost £95 per person, minimum of 2 people for the course to run. 10% discount for multiple bookings.
